Donald Ross Society Mission Statement

The Donald Ross Society, founded in 1989, is predicated on the principles of safeguarding and elevating the stature of the golf course from the so-called "Golden Era" of Golf Course Architecture. The Society's particular focus centers on those courses designed and constructed by Donald J. Ross & Associates of Pinehurst, North Carolina before 1945. However the Society recognizes the importance and contributions of other golf course architects of that period.

Since its inception fifteen years ago, the Society has worked
to achieve these major goals:

  • Raise the awareness of Donald Ross designed golf courses as viable and
    important contributions to the history of golf course architecture;
  • Serve as a clearinghouse for information on golf course architecture and restoration;
  • Develop a forum for the collection and dissemination of historical information concerning Donald Ross golf courses.
  • Assist in the restoration efforts of Donald Ross golf courses through a network
    of Allied Associations that include The American Society of Golf Course Architects,
    The Club Managers Association of America, The National Golf Foundation, The PGA TOUR, The PGA of America, and the United States Golf Association, among others;
  • Maintain a roster of Society Members which facilitates networking opportunities with fellow members;
  • Provide scholarship opportunities to worthy students meeting the scholastic criteria
    of the Society to help further a career in golf course architecture and/or agronomy.
